Macworld published a guide to setting up the software in 2015. Once done, it can only be decrypted using Bob's private key. GPG Suite aims to provide a simple installation of GnuPG and related tools on the macOS platform. Under the system a user, Alice, encrypts a message to a second user, Bob, using Bob's public key. Unfortunately, the tools are not yet released for macOS Sierra. Another terrific option for encrypting email is the GPG Suite. A public key which is shared widely and a private key which is kept confidential. No Love for GPG Suite on macOS Sierra Yet. Users must designate e-mail addresses and enter a passphrase for use. OpenPGP is a public-key encryption system, which requires users to create two keys. GPG Suite for Mac's wizard walks the user through the initial steps to set up encryption. GPG Services is a plugin that adds GPG encryption to many other applications, and MacGPG is the software that ties it all together. GPG Keychain is a manager for encryption and decryption keys. GPG Mail is a plugin for Apple Mail that allows users to encrypt, decrypt, sign, and verify mails sent using OpenPGP. While they are perfectly in their rights to do so, it did catch a lot of people off.

In a surprise move the team at GPGTools changed the product to require a license key and online activation. Four software apps are contained in the package: GPG Mail (part of GPGTools now GPG Suite) has been a free product for many years.
